Revised Rules for the 2006 Tournament:
There will be 8 teams this year. We will play two pools this year (A and B), with 4 teams in each pool. The teams will be seeded for pool scenarios. Each team within a pool will play all teams in said pool one time. The ADL will then select two teams for each team to play from the opposite pool. The selection will be done with witnesses, so there will be no call of "foul play". From there, a single elimination tournament will be set up. Seeding will be much like the SEC. A1 v. B4, B1 v. A4, etc. Someone smart enough can give more insight the day of the tournament. The games will be played to 12. You must win each game by 2 points. Make-it-Take-it applies. Substitutions will occur every 4 points. Players must follow the same substitution rules as the previous tournaments. Fouls are called by the players. Out of bounds will be called by players as well. Due to a mix in the decision to include a referee, there will be no ref. When you take the ball back, the ball must cross over the 3-pt. line (not just your foot) at the top of the key or the baseline/wing area. If not, a team may challenge the play, and a turnover will occur on the second occurrence. The first time is a warning, and play stops.
In the event of a jump ball scenario, teams will shoot for the ball from the free throw line. With that being said, a jump ball won't be called immediately. It will probably take two guys rolling on the ground for a jump to be called. Each team takes a shot until someone misses. The second player shooting must always make a shot if missed by the first shooter.
The 2 pt. line still applies. There is a bush that has grown to be quite a defender. If the ball hits the limbs, it is still in play. Once it lands out of bounds, play is dead. There is a post as well on the court. If the ball hits the post, play is live. Once the ball hits the house/roof/gutter, or the steps, play is dead. On the wide side of the court, play extends to the sidewalk, but not onto the sidewalk. When checking the ball inbounds, the defender on the ball must be one arms length away, plus another foot (at least). You cannot double team the open player on offense during the inbounds, unless he is in the post. You cannot be in the grass while in bounding the ball.
If a team is called for a 4th foul during a game, the other team will receive one free throw shot and possession of the ball. There are no flagrant/intentional/technical fouls. Play fair, be nice. At the same time, don't expect a lot of these hackers to call their own fouls. Big men will be molested, and the defenders will not admit to fouling. Guards will get hand-checked all day. If you get fouled, feel free to call it. But remember, someone may turn the tables on you in crunch time. But we do need to clean it up. Not wrap it up, clean it up. Play hard, do your best, play basketball and have fun. There will be offensive 3 seconds called. The lines are marked on the court. Actually, there are cracks in the sidewalk to mark the lane.
Since there will be more games played, we must get started earlier. The Brickfest and SlammyJam will start promptly at 11 and 11:15, and finish by 11:30. No exceptions. You must show up on time to participate in these events. Warm-up time will be from 11:30-11:45, with games starting at 11:50am. Remember, the rainout day is for the next day, Sunday, at the same time. Be sure to clear 2 days in your schedule.
Yours truly,
The ADL
