ADL 2008: April 26th Saturday or April 27th Sunday
The 7th Annual ADL Tournament, BrickFest, and Slammy-Jam presented by Anthony and the wonderful citizens of Prarie Village (or another location which is yet to be determined).
When: April 26th Saturday or April 27th Sunday (be sure to clear 2 days in your schedule, as we have on one occasion used the make-up date)
Where: Location is TBD. We hope to have it at the ADL court, but due to construction concerns, the game might be moved to John's house, The sewer goal, Porter Park, or Santa Fe Trail Elementary. All locations are within a minute, or minutes of the ADL court. PLEASE KEEP UPDATED ON THE DRIVEWAYLEAGUE WEBSITE, and POST ANY CONCERNS/SUGGESTIONS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE.
Entry Fee: This year, (AGAIN, IT IS CRUCIAL TO STAY POSTED AND GIVE FEEDBACK) we will not award t-shirts or plaques. The entry fee was $20 last year, to cover 6 years worth of plaques. We could do plaques and t-shirts for this years winners only, with an estimated entry fee of $15. The plan is this year to have a fee of $8-$10 based on food/drink purchases. The fee would be announced upon arrival to the tournament after purchases had been made. If you would like to pay the extra $5 for t-shirts and plaques, we need a majority vote to do so. Post all concerns on the ADL webpage Talk page.
Rules:
Depending on where we play this year, the format will be one of the following. If we play half court, again the new 3 on 3 format will be used. From there, we have the option to play without subs, and field roughly 5-6 teams, or we can play with subs, fielding 4 teams roughly. If we play at Santa Fe , the goals are 9ft., as opposed to 10 ft. at the sewer goal and Porter Park. Santa Fe gives the option to play multiple half court games at a time, or to play full court. Do not be discouraged by the term "full court", as it is really about 3/4 or less of a regular court. In the case of full court, teams would be 4 on 4, with an option for 4 teams estimated, unless subs were requested, and less teams would be fielded, or more players would need to be recruited.
*Depending on the number of teams will determine pool play. If 4 teams or less, play round robin, then double elimination tournament. If 6 teams or more, play 2 pools, just like last year, with each team playing all of the teams in its own pool, and then the ADL committee will randomly select a set number of teams to play in the other pool. Last year you played 2 out of the 4 teams from the opposite pool.
Play to 12, win by 2 (unless you vote otherwise)
Make it Take it applies
Subs come in every 4 pts.- the same sub rules as always
Each team has one 30 second timeout per game (this is a new rule)
*The timeout cannot be used when attempting to save a ball, or when possession is in question. The timeout is used only to regroup as a team, or to get a rest
Call your own-fouls, out of bounds, travel, double dribble, 3 seconds offensive in the lane, jump ball, illegal take back during change of possesion, etc.
When taking the ball back, the ball must clear the marked 3 pt. line, not just your foot. The first occasion is a warning, and automatic re-check (stop play). The second time, the team will lose
possession of the ball.
On a jump ball, which shouldn't be called unless someone is going to get punched, you must shoot
free throws. The ball never lies. Shoot until someone misses, and if the first player misses, the second player must make the shot to obtain the ball. You may not change shooters.
Sidelines are determined by the players. Keep an eye on grass that has leaked onto the court, as this can cause controversy. It is essential to discuss these items BEFORE play begins.
When checking the ball inbounds, keep your body inbounds at all times. Defensive player checking the ball may not double team any player on the offense until the ball is thrown in. Only if the player comes into his path may a double team occur. When guarding the ball before the pass has been made on a check, defensive player is one arms' length plus another foot away.
On the fourth foul, the team will get one free throw shot,
and the ball as well.
Warm-ups are at 11:45-Noon. Unless there is a vote to do either
the 3 pt and/or dunk, times would move up 15 min.
We thank you for reading the information for 2008. There is a lot of room for feedback, so please feel free. Also, contact those players that you normally do, as this is the busy time for the ADL. If you have someone new in mind, please contact Nick via phone or his hotmail before you make that decision on your own. The goal is to have a least 15 players. 24 players would be the maximum amount. Best wishes and good luck in your preparation for the tournament this year.
Do your best.
The ADL
ADL 2007: April 28th
April 29th is the rainout day if we cannot get an indoor court on the 28th. We will play at Anthony’s house if the weather cooperates.
ADL 2007 Rules and General Information
Entry Fee= $20 (Food, drink, shirts, plaques) Shirts and plaques for winners only, an abundance of food for all.
2007 ADL Teams will be announced two weeks (at the earliest) prior to the tournament. Due to several players out of town, and not having set work schedules, we will wait to form the teams.
Rules for the 2007 Tournament:
There will be anywhere from 4 to 8 teams this year. We will play two pools this year (A and B), with even teams in each pool or just one pool in the event that there are less than 6 teams. The teams will be seeded for pool scenarios. Each team within a pool will play all teams in said pool one time. The ADL will then select teams for each team to play from the opposite pool. The selection will be done with witnesses, so there will be no call of "foul play". From there, a single elimination tournament will be set up. Seeding will be much like the SEC. A1 v. B4, B1 v. A4, etc. Someone smart enough can give more insight the day of the tournament. The games will be played to 12 (unless the rules committee votes otherwise). You must win each game by 2 points. Make-it-Take-it applies.
Substitutions will occur every 4 points. Players must follow the same substitution rules as the previous tournaments. Fouls are called by the players. Out of bounds will be called by players as well. Due to a mix in the decision to include a referee, there will be no ref. When you take the ball back, the ball must cross over the 3-pt. line (not just your foot) at the top of the key or the baseline/wing area. If not, a team may challenge the play, and a turnover will occur on the second occurrence. The first time is a warning, and play stops. ****In the event that there are too many teams to play at Anthony’s house, and finish before 6pm, we will not have pool play. We will simply begin single or double elimination tournament play, and adjust the scoring. This will be determined at a later date, once teams are closer to being set.
In the event of a jump ball scenario, teams will shoot for the ball from the free throw line. With that being said, a jump ball won't be called immediately. It will probably take two guys rolling on the ground for a jump to be called. Each team takes a shot until someone misses. The second player shooting must always make a shot if missed by the first shooter.
The 2 pt. line still applies. There is a bush that has grown to be quite a defender. If the ball hits the limbs, it is still in play. Once it lands out of bounds, play is dead. There is a post as well on the court. If the ball hits the post, play is live. Once the ball hits the house/roof/gutter, or the steps, play is dead. On the wide side of the court, play extends to the sidewalk, but not onto the sidewalk. When checking the ball inbounds, the defender on the ball must be one arms length away, plus another foot (at least). You cannot double team the open player on offense during the inbounds, unless he is in the post. You cannot be in the grass while in- bounding the ball.
If a team is called for a 4th foul during a game, the other team will receive one free throw shot and possession of the ball. There are no flagrant/intentional/technical fouls. Play fair, be nice. At the same time, don't expect everyone to call their own fouls. Big men will be fouled, guards will get hand-checked. That’s just the ADL. Have fun with it. If you get fouled, feel free to call it. If someone gets upset, let’s just move on and play ball. But we do need to clean it up a bit. Play hard, do your best, play basketball and have fun. There will be offensive 3 seconds called. The lines are marked on the court. Actually, there are cracks in the sidewalk to mark the lane.
Since there will be more games played, we must get started earlier. The Brickfest and SlammyJam will start promptly at 11 and 11:15, and finish by 11:30. Warm-up time will be from 11:30-11:45, with games starting at 11:50am. Remember, the rainout day is for the next day, Sunday, at the same time. Be sure to clear 2 days in your schedule. Any questions or concerns, please post them on our website chat page. Let the insanity begin.
Yours truly,
The ADL

The ADL Team
2006 ADL Champions: Chris W. (two time winner), Loren, Luke (an 8th grader)
The rains were coming down outside, and this team was raining the J inside. The tournament moved indoors for the first time, and was played on a 10 ft. goal. The Fifth Annual ADL Jammie Jam concluded with some fun-filled moments. Can anyone forget the Bean going down after sinking a 3 pt. shot from the baseline? Too much French toast it would seem. How about Jamey kicking a ball across the gym floor? Lots of hacking going on. Does the ref need to come back? Or Anthony packing up his 40 left over hamburgers and 30 hotdogs? Making up for his profits last year, he managed to overspend this year, sending his brother Nick into the red financially as well. The moment of the day might have been young Luke, with his mentor John looking on from the court, sinking the tournament clinching 3 pt. basket. With 8 teams competing, and players from Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, and Illinois, this tournament is on the rise. We thank those that traveled. Jamey from Colorado, much love for your efforts. He played great. Green from Illinois, the former trainer and ref, turned hoopster. Thanks for the barfing memories. And Christian from Omaha, the webmaster, the Haskell hoopster.
He kept the communication flowing. We wish everyone well in their preparation
for the 2007 ADL tournament.
Any advice or recommendations are welcome. Email dominicruiz@hotmail.com
2006 MVP: Tri-MVP Loren, Chris W., Luke 3 pt. Champ: Brett Olson Dunk Champ: Nick Jianis, for being able to dunk on a 10 ft. goal, with Green Receiving the shirt. Next year we look forward to a fun-filled ADL. Hopefully, with plaques purchased for past winners, we will be able to supply food, drinks, t-shirts for everyone.
